Wakatipu High School offers an exciting range of extra-curricular activities.

Get Involved in Extracurricular Activities

At WHS Extracurricular activities form an important part of the educational experience of our students. We strongly encourage students to participate in sports, arts and clubs. Participation in these activities helps to build connections, a sense of whanaungatanga, and belonging.

Sports at Wakatipu High School

There are many opportunities to get involved in sports through the school and often in partnership with many local clubs in the Wakatipu Basin. These clubs help to cater for secondary school sport by providing coaching, facilities and equipment. Our students and teams compete in a mix of Central Otago, Southland and Otago Secondary School Sport competitions as well as South Island and New Zealand tournaments.

Supporting involvement with local sports clubs aligns with our commitment to the whole student experience. We believe that fostering athletic talent, alongside academic pursuits, develops well-rounded individuals who embody discipline, teamwork, leadership, and resilience which are essential qualities for success in all areas of life.

Wakatipu High School offers a variety of sports throughout the year, but availability is seasonal. This means the sport you're interested in might not be offered during your time here.

Participation options vary by sport:

Arts and Culture at Wakatipu High School

Music, drama and the arts are another exciting part of our school. We have award-winning jazz and pop music bands and individual instrument tuition is available. Each year, students undertake a major musical and dramatic production and our international students are strongly encouraged to take part.
