International Student Enrolment

Wakatipu High School (WHS) welcomes online applications from students worldwide. International learners make up approximately 3% of our school community, creating a vibrant, diverse atmosphere.

Admission is based on a student's academic records, English proficiency, and overall character and attitude.

Step-by-Step Enrolment Process

Submit Online Application:

Complete the online application via the Enrol Now link below. During this step, you will sign the Contract of Enrolment (which includes our Code of Conduct and Refund Policy) and your chosen Accommodation agreement.

1. Attend an Online Interview:
Prospective students will join a relaxed 20–40 minute video call (via Google Meet or similar) with our International Director and Homestay Coordinator. This helps us get to know you, understand your goals, and answer your questions.
2. Receive Conditional Offer & Invoice:
If your application is successful, we will issue a conditional Offer of Place and an invoice for your fees.
3. Payment & Final Offer:
Once tuition and fees are paid in full, WHS will issue your official fee receipt and an Unconditional Offer of Place.
4. Apply for Visa & Insurance:
Apply for your New Zealand Student Visa. This brief video explains the Student Visa application process. You must also secure approved medical and travel insurance. WHS can arrange this policy for you, or you can provide a copy of your own English-translated policy before arrival.

Key Enrolment Information

Minimum Intake: A minimum of two terms, starting at the beginning of either Term 1 (January) or Term 3 (July).
Academic Expectations: International students are expected to fully immerse themselves in the curriculum by participating in all chosen subjects, completing assignments, and sitting regular classroom tests or exams.
NCEA Qualifications: Students staying longer than six months will enrol in the NCEA framework. Grades are formally submitted to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
Student Disputes: New Zealand has strict protections for international students. If a dispute arises that cannot be resolved with the school, an official student complaints service is available to assist. You can find more information here.
